Positive IT or 34 criteria for a more responsible Digital

Did you know that the digital industry accounts for 4% of greenhouse gas emissions – in the same proportions as civil aviation?
It is in this context that, in September 2020, BNP Paribas Personal Finance committed itself to Responsible Digital by signing the charter of the INR (Institut du Numérique Responsable).
This commitment took the form of a programme dedicated to reducing the environmental impact of IT while promoting better digital inclusion: Positive IT.

What is Positive IT?

Since 2023, one of its key priorities has been to promote eco-design in customer journeys to make them more environmentally friendly and accessible to all.

And this goal doesn’t only concern IT! In fact, about 60% of the environmental impact of websites and applications stems from decisions made by business teams. This is why it’s essential for IT and business teams to work together in an agile mode, in the form of squads, from the very beginning of the customer journey design.

An innovative training program

Positive IT has developed a toolbox containing 34 specific criteria for eco-design and accessibility. Over time, these criteria will help squads improve their maturity in best practices concerning environmental sustainability and digital inclusion.

To make this approach more concrete, Positive IT has implemented a practical and fun training program with the support and co-funding of BNP Paribas Personal Finance’s Sustainability and Innovation teams, via Bivwak, BNP Paribas’ transformation hub
These partners bring their expertise to help understand and apply the criteria, and to support business teams in this process.

To learn more about this new tool, here is a video with Carole Elgoyhen, Guild Manager Positive IT, Sabine Lienard, Head of Sustainability in the BENELUX et Patricia Machado, Agile Coach in the Bivwak.

Eco-design is a key lever to limit the environmental impact of BNP Paribas Personal Finance’s IT, and it is a collective challenge. I am delighted with this collaboration, which demonstrates our shared ambition to reflect our mission: To serve our customers and partners, promoting access to more responsible and sustainable consumption. The training will be progressively deployed in core countries, and the entire company will be able to benefit!
