Can you introduce yourself?

My name is Nelson Silvério, I’m 34 years old and I am the web and mobile manager in Lisbon, Portugal. I started at BNP Paribas Personal Finance four years ago. First I was an independent consultant, then I was lucky enough to get a full-time position.

Could you tell us about the work you do?

My work mainly involves coordinating the IT team and helping my co-workers with their day-to-day work. I work closely with the business teams so I can understand what changes they need us to make to the various customer platforms and then I suggest the best tech solutions. I am also in charge of managing our applications. In fact, our team is responsible for keeping them updated so that they work properly.

What three qualities do you think a person needs to be a good web and mobile manager?

I think that above all you have to be organised and be able to prioritise so you can manage the different projects and schedules for the teams. I would add that you need to be motivated, resilient and enthusiastic so you can get your team to give their all.

What’s a typical day like for you?

There is no such thing as a typical day and that makes it interesting! I attend a lot of meetings with the business teams so I can understand their needs and those of our customers! I also support my Lisbon and Porto teams and our independent contractors with their projects.

What would you tell someone who was interested in joining your team?

I would tell them to go for it! In addition to the fascinating work we do, BNP Paribas Personal Finance is a company that really cares about its employees, listens to them and puts them first. It’s a transparent company where information is freely shared and it has a great work environment! We really feel like a team. Everyone is open-minded and committed, which makes you feel secure and motivated to achieve your goals.

Do you feel like you help bring your customers’ projects to life?

We work closely with the business teams, actually, so even if we are only helping indirectly, we still have a role to play and we are helping to bring people’s projects to life, for instance by making our platforms easier to use.
