Interview “Inside Out” : Marion Steinleitner, Employer Branding Manager & Lay Judge
For our eighth edition of Inside Out, we are pleased to welcome Marion Steinleitner, Corporate Identity Manager & Lay Judge. She joined the Communication teams at Consors Finanz in Germany a year ago as an Employer Branding Manager. Her role ? Bringing the company’s culture to life !
Hello Marion, what is your “Unexpected Job” ?
I would say that I am a “Gardener of culture” 🪴👩🏻🌾
My role is to :
- Create favorable conditions to bring culture to life
- Water the plantations regularly so that our values can grow naturally
- Take care of the soil and ensure the quality of the foundations so that the culture has good conditions to grow, take root and flourish in everyday life.
In short, based on the roots of the company’s values, I create an authentic garden reflecting the culture of Consors Finanz.
If I had to summarize my work in 3 missions, it would be :
- I communicate internally and externally the company’s vision to highlight the company’s values and culture.
- I train company leaders to bring the culture to life and become ambassadors of the company’s identity within their own team.
- I create an environment where employees feel they belong to a team, because a brand is not just a logo and a slogan, it is also the all the people who make it exist.
⚖️ What’s your “little something extra” ?
I am a big fan of “True crime”.
Two years ago, while I was looking to do some volunteer work with meaning and in line with my interests, a friend of mine who was a criminology student drew my attention to the position of “Lay Judge”.
I applied via my city’s town hall and I was selected to commit to becoming a lay judge for a term of 5 years.
Once a year, I receive a list of days when I must be available in order to attend to come into court.
I only find out on the day itself which case will be heard.
We work on complex criminal and civil cases (drug trafficking, assault, rape, murder, …). As lay judges, we have the same voting rights as professional judges when it comes to the verdict.
We embody the “voice of civil society” and offering moral insight and “common sense” from the people.
The lay judge thus complements the professional judge’s legal expertise.
The qualities of an Lay Judge in 3 words :
- Sense of justice
- Empathy
- Versatility
Every case is different and sometimes, for certain cases, we struggle to make a judgment, but that’s what I find fascinating.
Being Lay Judge is a huge contrast with my daily life and my job at Consors Finanz but it’s a great opportunity to better understand the German legal system.
😃 Because life is not just about work, what are your “3 Blissful Moments a Day” ?
- Cooking (especially Italian food 🇮🇹) : This is my “relax” moment. And if I can cook Italian food, then… That’s my absolute happiness ! I even have a pasta machine, so I make my own fresh homemade pasta.
- Walking in the forest 👣 : I live in the countryside near Munich and I’m lucky to have a beautiful forest right next to me. Walking allows me to change my surroundings and to take my daily steps, which I record on my watch. Because usually, in our jobs, we tend to sit all day at our desks.
- Quality Time 🫂 : It depends a lot on my mood and my stress level. Sometimes it’s just staying at home, reading a book or watching comfort series. And at other times, it’s going out to see my friends. But the most important thing is that I listen to myself and give myself the time I need to recharge my batteries.
✨ The mascot has a magic wand, what are your 3 wishes for BNP Paribas Personal Finance ?
- Becoming an employer of choice, I want BNP Paribas Personal Finance to be seen as a place where people feel valued, supported and proud to work in.
- To act as #OneTeam in our #OneBank model on a deeper level, working across borders and functions with trust, openness and shared goals.
- Strengthen the company culture, so that recognition, respect and solidarity are reflected in our daily lives.
