Cetelem Portugal and Phenix team up to fight against food waste!
Food waste is:
• 10 million tons of food waste produced
• 1/3 of food produced on the planet ends up in the trash without being consumed
• 20-30 kg of food discarded per person per year in France, of which 7 kg are still packed
At a global level, it represents 16 billion every year.
Cetelem Portugal and Phenix, French startup and leader in the field, which acts against waste, have formed a partnership to fight this scourge!
What is Phenix?
Phenix, known as one of the leading brands in the fight against food waste in Europe, supports companies, especially in the mass retail sector, in their efforts to reduce their waste.
Although the company first worked on the French market since its creation in 2014, it started its activity in Portugal in 2016 by launching a special program. Its principle is simple, converting surpluses from large commercial areas into donations to private institutions of social solidarity that support people in need.
It is in 2019 that its operations extend with the creation of an anti-waste application. Now present in Lisbon, Porto, Braga, Aveiro, Viseu and Coimbra, it has 210,000 users and more than 1,200 participating institutions. The latter helps local merchants to separate from their surplus, through the sale of products, on this platform, with discounts of about 60 to 70%.
Even in 2022, Phenix prevented the waste of more than 10 million meals, or 3,900 tonnes of food products. Thus, in Portugal alone, the release of more than 9,000 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere has been avoided.
