Interview “Inside Out”: Tomas Muñoz Costumero, IT Delivery Manager in Spain & Talent Booster

For this third edition of “Inside Out”, we are pleased to welcome Tomas Muñoz Costumero, IT Delivery Manager and CEO Deputy at SET (South Europe Technologies) in Madrid. SET is one of the two Shared Service Centers of BNP Paribas Personal Finance, currently with a size of almost 300 employees.

Tomas joined the BNP Paribas Group 20 years ago as an intern during his final year of Computer Engineering degree. Since then, he has contributed to numerous projects, such as developing the PF Corporate IT tool for the auto stock financing and establishing SET in Madrid, which today provides comprehensive IT, Data, and Operations services to the BNP Paribas Personal Finance territories under its responsibility.

Since 2023, Tomas has also been acting as IT Data Tribe Leader for SET while serving as the CEO’s right-hand man.

Hello Tomas, what is your “Unexpected Job” ?

I see myself as “the translator between two worlds”! My role is to transform business needs into innovative IT solutions and services.

My work can be summed up in three words: Analyze, Translate and Deliver

1I work in the analysis of the business needs with a very close relationship with them.

2 – I translate the business needs into IT features/services considering the mandatory “non-business” requirements too (as security, compliance, obsolescence, …).

3And I deliver IT solutions/services to the clients working in a continuous enhancement approach.

On a daily basis, I collaborate with multicultural and multilingual teams, always applying a One Team philosophy to deliver shared solutions tailored to global needs.

The key to succeeding in this role? Open-mindedness, communication skills, and a good dose of empathy.

🦸‍♂️What’s your “little something extra”?

Alongside my IT responsibilities, I am deeply committed to training and recruiting new talent. Over the past five years, I have launched three academies aimed at hiring and training young talent in our field.

One of the academies was exclusively composed of women, which I am particularly proud of, as women are still underrepresented in this area.

These academies have trained 18 individuals, including participants with no prior work experience. After an initial course, three-month intensive program in average, they received comprehensive training collaborating on different technological projects, helping them develop strong skills and discover a field that was often entirely new to them.

For me, training these young talents even if some later decide to pursue their careers elsewhere is a true social commitment. My goal is to provide them with a solid foundation, just as I benefited from an exceptional welcome during my early days at BNP Paribas Personal Finance in Spain. Seeing these talented individuals find their path within the Group today is a great source of satisfaction.

At SET, we strongly believe in Positive IT, not only to reduce our environmental footprint but also to promote diversity and inclusion as key levers for meeting future challenges

😃 Because life is not just about work, what are your
“3 Blissful Moments a Day”?

1 – Listening to music while practicing sport: it’s my best way to disconnect.

2 – Enjoying a good coffee with my colleagues: these informal exchanges often lead to innovative ideas or solutions.

3 – Planning the weekend with my kids: on Friday afternoons, we discuss small activities to do together. It’s something very simple, but brings us so much joy.

✨ The mascot has a magic wand, what are your 3 wishes for BNP Paribas Personal Finance?

1 – A big success for initiatives like Expresso, which will revolutionize the customer experience in personal loans.

2 – To continue addressing the needs of clients and partners in the context of mobility transformation

3 – To strengthen our commitment to diversity and inclusion, core values for overcoming future challenges

At SET, we believe in the power of collaboration and innovation to push boundaries.
